The U.S.-spec 2012 Fiat 500 equipped

The 2011 Fiat 500 will be offered in the market during the initial months of the year 2011 as per the current plans. The delay has been mainly due to the fact that the designers in the Italy and U.S are taking long enough in redesigning/rebuilding the tools that are to be used for the production of the 2011 Fiat 500.

As far as the price of the vehicle is concerned, the Fiat 500 will cost about $16,000 in Italy, whereas the basic variant of the BMW Mini is just $6,000 in the American markets. The front end of the car is snub nosed and it has a relatively short bonnet.

Fiat FC-500c

After some loud music and swirling spotlights, a small, red 1957 Fiat 500 drove onto the stage. A very attractive lady got out of the car. Attractive females and shiny automobiles have always been a part of car shows. But it became instantly obvious that this was not a typical female model or product specialist employee. This was Laura Soave, the Chief Executive for Fiat North America.

Run by Fiat, Chrysler hopes to have better sales in the last part of 2010, sales that would be boosted by the Americanized version of Cinquecento, or Fiat 500. The focus changed on smaller cars is part of Chrysler's efforts to improve its position. Among the several small models under development, the first one to hit the market has the Fiat badge attached to it. An electric version of the Fiat 500 is expected in American showrooms in 2012. The concept car with an electric drivetrain was introduced at the Detroit auto show in January. Although the car will have a Fiat nameplate, the engineering of the car will be done in Michigan and the car will be built specifically for the United States. However, the electric car will come one year behind Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and the electric Ford Focus.

The 2012 Fiat 500 will be called a Cinquecento

It can't be much "newer" than this one - the Fiat 500 which will be a 2012 model and not available until next year. It was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week and I was lucky enough to have a front row seat during the press conference. The Fiat management announced that Chrysler will build more than 50,000 cars each year until 2014, and Fiat 500 will be a small and lightweight platform that could fit the electric vehicle technology. The electric Fiat 500 will follow a conventional gasoline powered model, arriving in the US at the end of 2010.

2012 HRHamann Fiat 500

The partnership meant Fiat putting cash into Chrysler and would retool a Chrysler plant to produce Fiat models to be sold in the US. Fiat also provided engine and transmission technology that could allow the introduction of new and fuel-efficient small cars. At a time when larger and more global rivals such as Toyota, Volkswagen and Renault-Nissan are competing on the market, Fiat and Chrysler are uniting their efforts to become a viable competitor.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/TOwspXwx1fI/AAAAAAADprk/SVgSIQRE7Ng/s1600/HRHamannFiat3.JPG
As far as the competitors go, the main rival would be the newly redesigned Ford Ka, with whom the 500 shares basic underpinnings. With so much in common, how is it possible to split the two apart? Well firstly, the new Ford Ka slightly annoyed me by evolving into nothing more than a baby Fiesta, rather than a perfectly serviceable model in its own right. Secondly, the Fiat 500 does everything just a little better than the Ka. It handles better, feels nippier and looks a lot better than the characterless shell the Ka has become. The only downside is that the 500 is slightly more expensive, but remember that you're paying for style here people!

The exterior styling 2012 Fiat 500

Soave has been with the North American Volkswagen team for several years, but Fiat recently hired her to take control of the brand in the United States. She is a first-generation Italian-American with a lot of her family still in Italy. She commented, "This is not just a job for me, it is a passion and very near and dear to my heart." She showed a photo on the large screen, of her as a small girl standing on the hood of a Fiat back in Italy.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnVk/TSYat6l8JcI/AAAAAAADzrQ/ntMcCxGGW8c/s1600/Mopar-2012-Fiat-500-1.JPG
The exterior styling is basically unchanged from the past few years of the European model. Like the Mini-Cooper, it is considered "retro" and looks very similar to the little 1957 model that opened the press conference. Changes that are not obvious to the eye are abundant, however. These include a redesigned body structure that meets American regulatory requirements for crashworthiness. The cabin is quieter, in response to US customers demand for quietness. The floor, trunk, and instrument include new sound-deadening materials. There are new body and door seals as well as hydraulic powertrain mounts that help minimize engine vibrations.

Fiat 500

Fiat 500, 2008

Dante Giacosa's Fiat 500 was launched on July 4, 1957, as a cycle of rebirth was closing after the devastation of war, and a period of radical renewal of the company's product range was also coming to an end, opening the way for a cycle of successes in the coming decade, a period that we can consider one of the brightest in the brand's one hundred year history. The parallel with the new Fiat 500 is clear; it concludes the cycle of extraordinary rebirth of recent years, but thanks to its stylistic and technological features, it also represents the spark of a lasting process of expansion. And this is where history starts again.

Fiat's goal has not been to design a car that 'looks like' a 500, but one that 'could be' the Fiat 500 again. The new Fiat 500 opens the way for an innovative process in a number of environments that are very significant for today's customers, clearly outlining where its ambitions lie in relation to the future positioning of the Fiat brand. The Fiat 500 respects the original concept in its shape and function, as you expect in these cases, so that it can evoke all the emotions and memories that make all 'icons' eternal, raising them beyond the limiting dimension of their category.

But first and foremost it is important to underline the innovations that the new model is able to bring to this class of product for the first time.

First of all, the widespread involvement in the development of the model and of the marketing plan, with the participation of over 3,000,000 enthusiasts who have submitted their ideas to the project, through the www.500wantsyou.com website. This initiative is a new cultural approach to relations between manufacturer and client, making Fiat one of the most open organisations, close to the expectations of the public. 'The 500, the car of the people, by the people': this slogan sums up the philosophy behind the development of a project which, in the best Fiat tradition, 'democratises' access to contents and technologies that have never been offered in this segment before.

The first time that a car has been launched with the full range of engines (69 bhp 1.2. 75 bhp 1.3 Multijet with DPF and 100 bhp 1.4 16v) ready to meet the emissions limits set by Euro 5 standards, more than two years before the legislative deadline, a tangible sign of Fiat's determination to reaffirm its leadership where the environment is concerned.

The first time that a compact car (3.55 metres) has been built to achieve a 5-star rating in the EuroNCAP impact tests, and it is ready for the 6-star test if and when the new rating is introduced.

Safety at all costs, with no impact on prices, a bold decision, which confirms Fiat's intention of extending its strategy of leadership to vehicle protection, totally consistent with decisions taken in recent years as regards the Panda and the Croma, right through to the Grande Punto and the Bravo.

It is a safe product, not only for its structural sturdiness, but also because of the choices made in the construction of the range of outfits and services: 7 airbags as standard equipment (it is the only compact to offer a kneebag), and an advanced ESP available with all engines (standard on the 100 bhp 1.4 16v), are absolute novelties in this segment.

The first 'small' car to offer so much in the way of content: 4 specification levels, 3 engines at the launch, 12 colours, including 6 vintage colours that will bring the 1950s and 1960s to mind, plus tri-coat white produced by a process that is usually only adopted on luxury cars, 15 types of upholstery including luxurious Cordura and Frau Leather, 9 types of wheel rims, and 19 types of stickers, making a total of more than 500,000 variants (549,936 to be precise); the most interesting include the electric fragrance diffuser, with a choice of 3 different fragrances, and coloured key cases, an approach similar to that in the mobile phone market that lets you match the colour of the key to that of the bodywork, or to select another pattern of your own choosing. There has never been such a lavish array of accessories on such an accessible car.

The Fiat 500 is an inclusive not an exclusive concept and Fiat felt that this was the best way to meet the tastes of all its potential customers, without distinction, from the most minimalist to the most eccentric. The idea of creating a product that could adapt to the needs of the individual was also expressed in the decision to surpass all the competition in the process of incorporating electronic technologies into the passenger compartment (Plug In). A second generation Blue&Me is available, and an iPod can be easily incorporated thanks to the socket and the battery charger. A new portable navigator was developed specially for the Fiat 500 with Magneti Marelli, which is fitted directly on the dashboard and connects to other vehicle functions.

The concept of customisation is not limited to the product, but extends to the world of services and forms of payment. For example, with the '500 Cents' and '50to500' formulas from Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services, the customer will be able to purchase any version of the Fiat 500 including customisation, for ¤ 5 a day, and with no down payment, or to pay 50% of the sum immediately and the remainder after 2 years.

Plenty of offers and possibilities, because the Fiat 500 must be the car for everyone: it is the car of the people, made by the people, for the people. The Fiat 500 is the 'New Fiat' and the 'New Fiat' belongs to everyone.

For the company, the birth of the Fiat 500 represents the start of a new chapter, a declaration of the role that Fiat aims to interpret in the future on the market and in society. The stimulus to a new model of conscious consumption. A model for the exploitation of experience in the automotive field that focuses on quality and emotions, on uniqueness rather than on mass-production, where simplification does not mean doing without. The Fiat 500 is the tangible synthesis of these aspirations.

With the 500, Fiat smiles at the future.

Fiat 500 Barbie Concept

Fiat 500 Barbie Concept

The Fiat 500 makes headlines once more, as befits an authentic Made in Italy icon.

The fashionista car but quite tongue-in-cheek and with lots of charm: just like Barbie herself.
The gleaming paintwork resembles varnish and definitely makes for a shock effect, achieved with deep lacquered colour using ultra fine aluminium plunged in deep, up-to-the-minute pink. The seating is upholstered in strikingly soft fabrics: silver laminated Alcantara is not only trendy but plush to the touch and its glimmer bounces as far as the roof panel.
There are mats enhanced with natural silk yarn and sleek viscose, not to mention lip glosses in brilliant colours stored in the glove compartment, plus a LED-decked vanity mirror to ensure perfect application.

Roberto Giolito, creator of the Fiat 500, had this to say about the Mattel-Fiat partnership scheme: "All-American Ms Barbie already has a number of 'transport solutions' available, like thundering GTs and motor homes with endless accessories.
So if she's spotted a 500 and wants one as a gift for this landmark birthday, it's a signal typical of modern times that there's a renewed need for dreaming the simple things in life, which give so much, allow us to lighten up, thrill who's born beautiful or just feels beautiful, but doesn't have to prove anything.
The Barbie already has everything. Sleek Barbie is a looker, smart enough to listen to everyone, a universal ambassador opting for a car that never divides but frees everyone from having to declare their social status.

Another round of dealer cuts imminent at GM

Just a couple of weeks ago General Motors revealed that it would be cutting ties with over 1,100 dealerships, and the bad news keeps coming for dealers as the struggling automaker is expected to cut a further 450 dealerships in the coming months.

Many dealerships are under franchise agreements with GM that are expected to finish late next year - at which point around 450 dealers will most likely not have their contracts renewed. The dealerships facing the axe from GM have been chosen because they "have very specific issues", the automaker’s sales chief Mark LaNeve revealed to Automotive News. These issues include the fact that certain dealerships may have been exclusively stocking the now-defunct Pontiac brand, or be underperforming in regards to sales targets.

Car that chauffeured Mussolini, Franco, Hitler up for auction

There were a little more than 600 Fiat 2800s made between 1938 and 1943, only about 400 of them for civilian use. The one you see above is one-of-a-kind: a 1939 Fiat 2800 Torpedo whose cushions have supported the rear ends of King Vittorio Emanuele II, Queen Margherita, the Princess of Pistoia, Pope Pius XII, Benito Mussolini, Generalissimo Francisco Franco, and Adolf Hitler.

A couple of prime ministers have graced those seats as well, but with that diverse, high-profile roster who's worried about bit players?

The car will be auctioned by COYS International Auction House and is expected to fetch something north of £250,000. If you're interested in a slice of history, you'll want to be in Espace Fontvieille, Monaco on Monday, May 18.

Video: Fiat Multiair Technology Announced - More Power, Less Fuel, Less Emissions

With more stringent emission standards on the horizon, consumers are demanding more fuel-efficient models, Fiat introduced their new engine MultiAir. The company believes that the new power system is the most great advances in the design of gasoline engines, in recent years in the MultiAir to provide more power, reducing fuel consumption, reduced exhaust emissions compared to traditional gasoline engines.

In view of the company's history on the use of technological breakthroughs in order to improve performance and efficiency of diesel engines, the Fiat car company takes a similar approach in developing the new engine MultiAir. At about 10% of the traditional engines are a waste of energy input process, is responsible for pumping air from the intake of low atmospheric pressure discharge pressure. Fiat first started looking for the possibility of reducing the waste of energy early in the 20th century, 80's, but have only recently been able to develop a new system, the air is responsible for direct measurement of water in the cylinder, while maintaining constant pressure on the natural upstream .

The new system is extremely technical, but in essence it by a series of solenoid valve is opened or closed camshaft rotation. When the solenoid valve is activated, there are several different situations happen in order to optimize the use of electricity and fuel. (A comprehensive overview of how the system can work at Press Release)

Among the many benefits of the new engine MultiAir are up to 10% growth in power-oriented appreciation of mechanical performance camshaft profile, the revised intake valve to shut down the system, improve low-rpm torque as high as 15%, lower by 10% at fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, because the elimination of pumping losses. More importantly, the fact that MultiAir new engine can achieve up to 25% of the overall increase in fuel economy compared to conventional naturally aspirated engine the same level of performance.

In the future, can see the introduction of technology MultiAir Fiat's diesel engines, because it is committed to providing up to 60% of the nitrogen oxide emissions decreased by 40%, reduce carbon dioxide emissions at cold start and engine warm-up.

Geneva World Premiere: Rinspeed E2 Pre-Release

Rinspeed has announced plans to introduce a new concept at next month's Geneva Motor Show which acknowledges that consumers are becoming more and more concerned about fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions. Most commonly associated with high performance Porsche's and wacky concepts such as the sQuba, the company has decided to jump on the green bandwagon with their new Fiat 500 Abarth based E2.

According to Rinspeed's boss, Frank M. Rinderknecht, he's not a huge fan of eco-tuning but he sees the potential to tap into the market because people are becoming more concerned about the environment and fuel economy. He considers the E2 as well as the iChange to be a way to nudge the tuning business to explore new opportunities that will benefit everyone.

Like the BMW M5 which features a 400 hp normal mode and a 500 hp M mode, the E2 offers a similar selection system that cranks out 60 hp when "Commuting" and 160 hp when the driver hits the "Highway" button. When the commuting level is selected the car consumes about 4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, in highway mode fuel consumption increases to around 7 liters per 100 kilometers.

Upcoming Alfa Milano, Giulia nameplates revealed... by Chrysler

Fiat 500, Alfa Romeo 940 Reportedly Heading Stateside

The proposed alliance between the two carmakers will give Chrysler access to Fiat's platforms and 1.4- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines while Fiat gains access to Chrysler's production facilities, platforms, and dealer network. The report also goes on to state that Fiat is seriously considering Chrysler's LX platform, which is used on the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300, as a possible basis for the Alfa Romeo 169.

Although it was previously believed that Fiat's return to the US market would wait until the company setup production at Chrysler plants in North America, the latest report seems to suggest that initial Fiat and Alfa Romeo models will be built in Europe and then shipped to the United States. If such a move were to take place it would mean Fiat products could be sold in the US as early as next year, a full 12-18 months faster then waiting for North American production. Unlike today's Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione which is sold through select Maserati dealerships, future Fiat and Alfa Romeo models would be sold at select Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealers.

As we have previously reported, the proposed alliance between Chrysler and Fiat will see several of the latter company's products reaching US shores in the coming years. According to Automotive News, some of the first models under consideration for US consumption are the Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo's upcoming 940 sedan.

Car News: Fiat Abarth co-brands with Intel PC and Yamaha FZ1

Abarth is sleeping with some rather unusual bedfellows in Intel and Yamaha. The way forward in the motor industry is an unknown one so who knows where these collaborations might lead. The Intel one has future ECU possibilities of course, but for now it’s confined to branding a high-performance desktop machine powered by Intel’s new Core i7 Extreme processor, which is the most powerful Intel processor ever built.
The Abarth Powerplay Extreme PC is being exhibited at the 0 - 100 show and features everything that a hardcore gamer needs from a PC. The machine is used in recognition of gamers’ wide and often limit-bending applications of PCs, making them a sort of test bed for extreme performance. It will be the protagonist to Intel Friday Night Game, a championship in which 30 countries compete.

Yamaha’s involvement with Abarth takes the form of a “naked” FZ1 Abarth Assetto Corso bike with 150hp, very light with generous use of aluminium, titanium and carbon fiber components. It features monobloc brake callipers, daisy discs and a very adjustable suspension system. Abarth livery adds to the sporting mystique of this new collaboration.
